Since childhood she has had a passion for dancing, and has studied several forms of dance including ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, modern, African, classical & modern Indian, and Middle Eastern. She began her experience dancing at the age of four at Joe Micheals Dance Studio where she was a member of the dance company, and studied under the direction of Joe, Ruth, Dana, and Mia Michaels, Tawana Hall, Allison Hesh, Angel Fraser-Logan, and Kelly. During her years of dedication to the company she competed in several competitions nationwide such as DEA (Dance Educators of America) and Tremaine. She was a backup dancer for Ricki Martin in the Winter Music Conference in 2000, danced at a charity event to raise money for Parkinsons's Disease held at
Bryan McKnight’s home for Michael J. Fox and several other celebrities, and has performed for live television in New York City.
In her late teenage years she fell in love with the art of Middle Eastern Dance and has come to acquire knowledge, technique, and culture of the dance through her instructor Samay. She has had the honor to study under the direction of world renowned instructors such as Raqia Hassan, Tito Seif, Yousry Sharif, Jihan Jamal, Tamalyn Dallal, Virginia, Bozenka, Jillina, Aladin (Germany), Leila Haddad (France), Bollywood performer Reetu Jain (India), Meera (one of the top Choreographers of Bollywood), and many more. Heather has had the privilege to open, as a member of Samay Middle Eastern Performing Arts Company, for concerts featuring the famous Arabic singers Shireen and Nancy Ajram. She has performed for royalty and high profile politicians, at Joharah’s International Hafla annually since 2001, at the Ahlan Wa Sahlan festival in Cairo, Egypt, aboard Norwegian Cruise Lines in the Mediterranean Sea, on AmerTV’s Seguro Que Yes, and has been invited to travel around the world to perform at several other venues. She has currently been elected to be an Assistant Organizer and Ambassador for the 2008 Miami Bellydance Meetup.
She is now one of the directors and choreographers of Ala Nar Dance Company alongside her partner Aiza. Ala Nar Dance Company has been performing throughout the United States and was featured on Deco Drive for their performance at the 2007 IIDA Design Mix at Vizcaya. They have also performed in exclusive charity events. Ala Nar has become known for their elegance, technique, precision, and authentic representation of belly dance.
Heather was invited to model for Bebe, Inc. in their semi annual premier fashion shows annually since 2003, and for the annual IIDA Design Mix (where she also performed) which were held at Nikki Beach, Raleigh Hotel, and currently Vizcaya beginning in 2003. She has also modeled for Jay Wray’s “Aubin” fashion show, and Cedella Marley’s clothing line Catcha Fire.
She is not only a professional belly dancer but also a college graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry with Honors from Barry University. She was the president of the Chemistry Club at Barry, and is a member of the National Chemistry Honors Society as well as the ACS (American Chemical Society). Her goal is to share the knowledge that she has obtained throughout the years to her students and others so they may pass it on with respect and reverence which is important in order to keep belly dance alive and authentic. She has been teaching dance for fifteen years and looks forward to sharing her art with the world.
